Been to Mahe last weekend. It was not planned for...but the whole universe conspired in me being there last Saturday. :)
After a search for houseboats and temples with muralled-caves in calicut, we realised that they existed only in the zillion websites that boasted of them and had long become part of history.
Thats how Mahe happened. Beach at 2PM? I would have never done it on any other occasion. But the experience was very well worth it. I had seen drive-in beaches only in Bollywood/Tollywood songs picturised in some exotic location, but this time I got to experience it.
The drive-in beach experience
Jonathan Livingston Seagull in Mahe?
Mahe rocks and so does my accidental tan :)

Phew!
Got some time to breathe now.
Last few weeks have been choc-a-bloc with work and play. There were all these assignments and report work that needed to be done, the C-hostel farewell party, farewell party in Taj, the vist to KSEB and the chat with the Trade union leader and a karmayoga proponent, Ragam at NITC - I go as a distinguished alumni and a judge for MovieSpoofs, the fashion show fiasco at NITC and a lot more.
Walking around in NITC was a very nostalgic experience. Though I was never attached to the place during the four years it putted up with me, walking along the Compsci dept, the placement block, the mech workshop, atuditorium, electrical workshops brought back a flood of memories. Missed AnDePRin.
NITC seems to be on an accelerated growth path. 2 new buildings have come since I have last been there and I could see the construction work going on for 2 more buildings. Advantages of changing from REC to NIT - the funds from World Bank dont really hurt :)

Carly's lesson
Feb 7 saw Carleton S. Fiorina, one of the highest ranking and glamorous women in the corporate world, being fired from HP.
Reason for this move? HP's stock price fell 32% during her tenure.
Following the Feb 9 announcement of her departure, investors bid up HP stock by 7%, to $21.53.
At HP, an e-mail began making the rounds: "Dingdong, the witch is dead."
Tsk tsk
BW tries to answer how much her gender contributed to her failure?
And according to them the major factor for her failure was the lack of operating experience.
“But the biggest problem may be that most women are never really groomed to run a major corporation -- often rising through the ranks of marketing, human resources, or other staff jobs associated more with female employees than males. The women often don't get broad profit-and-loss experience that exposes them to different functions in the company.”
Just when I was thinking how to choose my electives. This may not directly relate to it, but then at least now I have some logic.
I don’t want to get ousted from the NGO I am gonna be the CEO of some day.

Lord grant me the SERENITY
to accept the things I cannot change;
the COURAGE to change the things I can;
and the WISDOM to know the difference.

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Some good some not so good
Just got back from the SSG fete. SSG is the Social services group - student driven initiative - of IIMK. Felt good to see so many people participating in it wholeheartedly. Its something like a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. The people who played the games and won or made a complete fool of themselves (like me) had a great time....and so would those unfortunate people to whom the proceeds of this event would go to.
Another recent successful student initiative at IIMK was Backwaters 2005, our annual management festival. Great participation from other B-schools. our campus was full of people and energy......and more girls on the campus for a change. The event was handled in a very professional way. Since I was tied up in a marketing game, which for some reason was deisgned not to let the participants take part in any other event, I ended up missing most of the fun. But finally at the end of the day, all that was left was Jadoo, the product that we were trying to market and the priceless fun we had going about it.
The event concluded with a performance on Mohan Veena by Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, who is a Grammy award winner. Except for one piece of music that he performed, the rest of the concert was just normal stuff. But that one piece was amazing.
Another highlight of the event was the play that was put up by the first years. It was almost like a professional play. Class act. All of you who spent so much time and effort to make it a big success - take a bow. You too..... Ms. Q, the producer.
Backwaters was grand.
It hasn't been all fun here at K. The last week saw all of us scampering around to round up our group mates and finish off assignments and projects and attend full day classes and give surprise quizzes. If u can find anyone in our batch who has had a peaceful sleep in the last one week, chances are very high that he/she is a free-rider. Nope...am not talking about an insurance rider that comes free :D
A free-rider is a free-rider is a free-rider is a *&^$@$%.
Is all the goodness and peace on a vacation? Desperately looking for them over here.
